Funding options

Explore ways to support your learning costs from Aotearoa New Zealand

We believe practical tech education should be more accessible.

In New Zealand, funding and study support can depend on your circumstances and whether your chosen course and provider meet eligibility criteria.

Below are common pathways New Zealand learners use to support study costs—such as Fees Free (final-year), StudyLink support, Work and Income training assistance, or employer sponsorship. Our team can also walk you through CLA payment options and discounts so you can choose a plan that fits your goals and budget.

Fees Free (final-year)

From 1 January 2025, Fees Free can cover fees for the final year of eligible tertiary study (or the final 2 years of eligible work-based learning), up to a capped amount. Eligibility rules apply, including criteria about prior study and eligible qualifications/programmes.

StudyLink — Student Loan

StudyLink may offer Student Loans to help cover compulsory course fees (and, in some cases, course-related costs) for approved courses run by approved education providers. Eligibility depends on residency and the course/provider approval status.

StudyLink — Student Allowance

A Student Allowance is a weekly payment to help with living costs for eligible students. In most cases, it’s for learners studying full-time (with some exceptions). Eligibility depends on residency and study criteria.

Work and Income — Training Incentive Allowance (TIA)

If you’re receiving a benefit, Work and Income may be able to help with study-related costs through the Training Incentive Allowance. TIA eligibility includes requirements about the type and length of study, and whether the course is recognised.

Work and Income — other training support

Work and Income may also provide other support for eligible people, such as Course Participation Assistance (for short training under 12 weeks) or additional help with essential costs like transport, childcare, and equipment.

Employer sponsorship and professional development budgets

Many New Zealand employers support upskilling through training budgets. If you’re learning to improve performance in your current role, your employer may be open to sponsoring part (or all) of your tuition—especially when you can clearly link outcomes to business needs.

Code Labs Academy discounts

We offer a range of discounts (where available), including early bird offers and other eligibility-based reductions. Ask our team what’s currently available when you apply or book a call.
