Funding options in Slovakia

Want to upskill for the modern tech market without putting everything on your own budget? On this page you’ll find Slovakia-relevant funding routes that may help cover training costs—whether you’re registered as a job seeker, actively looking, or building skills alongside work.

At Code Labs Academy, we make upskilling more accessible—also for learners in Slovakia.

Funding rules can feel bureaucratic, especially when you’re just trying to learn practical tech skills. If you’re based in Slovakia, you may be able to use local labour-office programmes (such as RE-PAS+ or KOMPAS+) or employer co-funding routes. Our team can help you map the options, align your learning plan to a realistic schedule (CET/CEST friendly), and prepare the info you typically need for applications.

RE-PAS+ (ÚPSVaR retraining support)

If you’re registered as an “uchádzač o zamestnanie” (job seeker) with ÚPSVaR, RE-PAS+ can support approved retraining. The programme is described as running in Slovakia with specific regional limits (e.g., Bratislava region exclusions). It can cover training fees and may include support for related costs such as travel/meals, depending on the rules and your approved request.

KOMPAS+ (competency courses via ÚPSVaR)

KOMPAS+ is aimed at building practical, job-relevant competencies—such as digital skills, languages, communication, and personal/entrepreneurial development. It’s designed for job seekers and is described as available in Slovakia with regional constraints (e.g., outside Bratislava region).

National project: Zručnosti pre trh práce

This Slovakia-wide initiative is implemented through labour offices and is co-financed through EU funds (Program Slovensko). It’s designed to support skills development for both unemployed and employed people through multiple pathways. Availability, eligibility, and active intake periods can change, so it’s worth checking the latest status before planning your start date.

Support for “záujemca o zamestnanie” training

Some support routes are designed for “záujemcovia o zamestnanie” (people actively looking for work who may not be registered as unemployed). These options can be especially relevant if you’re trying to strengthen employability through upskilling—however, they may pause or restart depending on the project cycle and current intake.

Employer co-funding for employee upskilling

If you’re employed, your company may be able to co-fund training through employer-focused calls (for example, programmes aimed at “zvyšovanie zručností zamestnancov”). These calls typically open for limited windows, and requirements can differ by employer type and region—your HR team can confirm what’s currently available.

How To Get Started in Slovakia

The right funding route depends on your status (job seeker, job applicant, employed) and sometimes on your region. Use the steps below to move from “I’m interested” to a realistic plan—without getting stuck in paperwork.

1. Pick the skills you want to build

Choose the path that matches your goals: Web Development, UX/UI Design, Cyber Security, or Data Science & AI. Even if you’re not switching careers, structured upskilling can unlock new responsibilities, better projects, and stronger job security.

2. Match your situation to a funding route

Check whether RE-PAS+ or KOMPAS+ applies to you, whether there’s a route for “záujemca o zamestnanie”, or whether employer co-funding makes the most sense. If you’re unsure, we’ll help you shortlist the realistic options.

3. Apply, then align timing with your cohort

Once you know which route you’ll use, prepare the required information, submit the request through the relevant process (labour office or employer), and confirm your cohort start date with our admissions team so your schedule stays smooth.
