Funding Your Tech Training in Ireland

A practical guide to common Irish funding routes for upskilling — plus how Code Labs Academy can support you with the information you need to apply.

What funding options exist in Ireland?

Ireland has several national and sector-led programmes that can subsidise upskilling and reskilling. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to reduce — or in some cases fully cover — tuition fees for approved courses and providers.

Common routes include Springboard+ (Higher Education Authority), Skills to Advance (delivered by SOLAS and the Education and Training Boards), and Skillnet Ireland networks that provide subsidised training aligned to industry needs. If you’re engaging with Intreo or other Department of Social Protection supports, you may also be able to explore education and training allowances while you study.

Does it cover full tuition?

It depends on the programme and your eligibility. Some funded places can cover 100% of tuition for eligible applicants, while other routes are subsidised and require a learner contribution (for example, many Springboard+ places are 90% funded for those in employment).

Who can apply?

Eligibility differs by programme, but funding is commonly available for:

  • People based in Ireland

Most schemes are designed for people who are resident in Ireland and/or working for an Ireland-based employer.

  • Depending on the programme, you may qualify if you are:

    • In employment

Springboard+ often offers heavily subsidised places for people in employment, and Skills to Advance supports employees and employers to upskill through the ETBs.

    • Not in employment / returning to work

Springboard+ also offers fully funded places to eligible jobseekers and returners in priority skills areas.

    • An employer upskilling a team

Skillnet Ireland networks deliver subsidised training aligned to sector needs, often accessed through participating employers and networks.

    • Exploring social protection supports

If you’re receiving certain Department of Social Protection payments, schemes such as the Back to Education Allowance may provide income support while you undertake full-time education or training.

If you’re a jobseeker or career changer, talk to your local Intreo Centre or ETB about the most suitable route for your circumstances (including Springboard+ options or education/training allowances).
