A Bildungsgutschein is an educational voucher provided by the employment agency/Jobcenter (Agentur für Arbeit / Jobcenter) issued to people who are unemployed (or soon to be unemployed). This voucher covers all costs for further training to help people get a job quicker and tackle unemployment.
Only institutions and courses that have passed a rigorous certification process are allowed to accept a Bildungsgutschein. This approval is regulated by the German AZAV (Akkreditierungs- und Zulassungsverordnung Arbeitsförderung). Code Labs Academy is proudly AZAV certified, which means all of our eligible bootcamps can be funded through the Bildungsgutschein and have been independently quality checked. The same AZAV approval is also a key requirement for many other funding instruments offered by the Federal Employment Agency.
Yes! The Bildungsgutschein typically covers all academic costs of the educational institution providing your training (tuition, learning materials, and sometimes exam fees). Once you have received your voucher, you only need to invest your time and hard work.
The minimum requirements to be eligible for a Bildungsgutschein are:
Whether you’re a German citizen or a foreigner living in Germany, you must have an Anmeldebescheinigung (registration certificate / proof of address).
If you’re currently receiving Arbeitslosengeld I (unemployment benefits) or Bürgergeld via the Jobcenter, you can also apply for a Bildungsgutschein to help you get a new job.
If your current job contract will expire soon, or you’ve been told your job is at risk of redundancy, you may also be granted a Bildungsgutschein. In most cases, you must have worked and paid social security contributions in Germany for at least one year to qualify.
Make sure you’re registered at the Agentur für Arbeit or Jobcenter either as unemployed, at risk of unemployment, or as an advice seeker (Beratungsuchende*r).
Book a consultation appointment online at your local Agentur für Arbeit or Jobcenter, by calling 0800 4 555500, or by visiting your local office in person.
Apply for one of our bootcamps before your appointment at the Jobcenter – schedule a meeting with us and we’ll provide you with all the information you need to present our bootcamps in your voucher discussion.
Attend your appointment at the Agency or Jobcenter ready to make a strong case for why a bootcamp with Code Labs Academy is right for your profile and long‑term career goals.
Once you’ve been granted your voucher, contact us with the good news! We’ll sign your voucher to return to your advisor and send you our participant contract to officially enrol as a CLA participant.
