The Cheque-Formação is an IEFP support measure designed to help people in Portugal improve their skills and employability through certified training.
You choose an eligible course delivered by a certified training provider and submit your application via IEFP Online. Depending on your profile, you may also be covered by the Cheque-Formação + Digital, which focuses on strengthening digital skills.
For the Cheque-Formação, funding can cover eligible training costs up to a maximum of €175 per person per calendar year, or up to €500 per year for long-term unemployed applicants (subject to IEFP rules and eligibility).
Eligibility is defined by IEFP and may vary by measure. For the Cheque-Formação, the key requirements typically include:
The Cheque-Formação is aimed at people aged 16 or over, including both employed (employee or self-employed) and unemployed applicants (subject to IEFP conditions).
If you’re working in Portugal (employed or self-employed), you may be eligible to use the Cheque-Formação to upskill through certified training.
Unemployed applicants usually need to be registered with IEFP for a minimum period (e.g., 90 consecutive days for Cheque-Formação). Additional conditions may apply, such as your qualification level and alignment with your personal qualification plan.
Confirm which IEFP measure best fits your situation (e.g., Cheque-Formação vs. Cheque-Formação + Digital) and review the eligibility requirements.
Choose an eligible course delivered by a certified training provider (entidade formadora certificada) and gather the required documentation (course details, enrolment proof, and cost information).
Submit your application through IEFP Online, attaching the requested documents.
Wait for IEFP’s decision and follow any next steps they request (for Cheque-Formação, the framework foresees a decision within up to 30 working days).
If approved, accept the Term of Acceptance and follow the payment/reimbursement instructions (for Cheque-Formação, payments are typically made in two stages: 50% after approval and 50% after you complete the training and submit proof).
