Funding Your Training in France (CPF, France Travail & PTP)

Learn how to use France’s main training funding routes — CPF, France Travail support, and employee transition funding — to reduce or cover your tuition and start learning with confidence.

What is CPF (Compte Personnel de Formation)?

The CPF (Compte Personnel de Formation) is France’s personal training account. If you’ve entered the French labour market, you have a CPF account that accumulates training rights (in euros) you can use to finance eligible training programs.

You can use your CPF to pay for training directly via the Mon Compte Formation platform. If you want to take training during working hours, your employer’s approval may be required. If your CPF balance doesn’t fully cover the tuition, complementary funding may be possible depending on your situation.

Does it cover full tuition?

It depends on (1) your available CPF balance and (2) the course price. In some cases, your CPF can cover the full cost; in others, it may cover part of the tuition and you can explore complementary funding (employer support, France Travail, disability-related funding, regional support, etc.).

Who can apply for training funding in France?

Funding routes depend on your status (employee, job seeker, career changer). The most common options in France include CPF, France Travail support, and employee transition funding.

  • Have (or open) a CPF account

Anyone who has entered the French labour market typically has a CPF account. You can use your already-acquired rights to fund eligible training — including during periods of unemployment.

  • Depending on your profile, you may also qualify for:

    • France Travail funding — AIF (Aide Individuelle à la Formation)

If you’re registered with France Travail, you may request AIF to finance a training plan. AIF can cover all or part of training costs (depending on the decision and your plan), and may be used as a complement when other funding is not sufficient.

    • PTP (Projet de Transition Professionnelle) via Transitions Pro

If you’re a private-sector employee planning a career change, PTP can finance a certifying training program and help you follow it while keeping your salary (subject to eligibility and approval).

    • Employer support (company / HR / training budget)

Some employers can co-finance training, especially if the skills are relevant to your role or if the training is done during working hours.
