Funding a bootcamp in Luxembourg
There is no voucher here. No CPF, no Bildungsgutschein, nothing you apply for as an individual and spend on a course you choose. What Luxembourg has instead is four genuine routes, and the thing nobody tells you is that they exclude one another: paid training leave is refused for a course that another scheme has already funded. So this is not a page about stacking. It is about picking the right one, before you enrol, because the choice is much harder to change afterwards.
Four routes, one course, and the rule that makes it a choice
Most funding guides in most countries end with a line about combining what you found. That advice is wrong in Luxembourg and it is the reason files get refused. The congé individuel de formation excludes training cofinanced under other legal provisions, so if your employer claims the State's 15% refund on your invoice, or ADEM reimburses part of it, your application for paid days off can be turned down on the same course. The routes are not layers of one offer. They are four separate transactions with different beneficiaries: the employer refund reduces what the company pays, the tax deduction reduces what you pay, ADEM aid partly reimburses a jobseeker, and training leave buys time while leaving the invoice untouched. Which one is yours turns on facts about your situation rather than on which is largest, and one of them turns on a distinction people routinely get backwards, because the tax deduction here covers deepening the job you hold and not learning a new one, which is the opposite of the German rule that a large share of this country's workforce grew up with.
If you are employed, start with your employer, because it is the only route that moves real money towards the fee. A company established in Luxembourg recovers 15% of its annual training investment from the State, and invoices from external providers and e-learning are explicitly eligible costs with no Luxembourg accreditation of the school required. If you have been declared unfit for your last workstation, the strongest route in the country is open to you. In external redeployment the employment fund can bear the cost of a training you propose yourself, with no approved-provider list, decided file by file by the Minister of Labour. If you are paying yourself and the course deepens the job you already hold, deduct it. No ceiling above the automatic EUR 540, no condition on the provider anywhere in the rule, and past 42% back at the top of the scale. Whatever you choose, use your paid days for the time rather than the money. Individual training leave gives private-sector employees and the self-employed up to 20 paid days every two years and 80 across a career, for training they choose themselves, with cross-border commuters eligible on the same terms. Frequently asked questions
I commute in from France, Germany or Belgium. Which of these are open to me?
More than most people expect, because Luxembourg's labour-law entitlements attach to the workplace rather than to residence. Training leave, both the paid days and the unpaid right, works the same for a frontalier as for a resident, and your employer's cofinancement claim is about the company rather than about you. The tax deduction is the one that follows taxation instead: if your salary is taxed in Luxembourg it is yours, and if you are taxed where you live you use your own country's rule. ADEM aid is the exception in the other direction, since an unemployed cross-border worker normally claims in their country of residence.
Can I really not combine any of them?
You can combine things that are not funding the same invoice. Taking paid training days for a course you pay for yourself and then deducting that course is fine, because nothing has cofinanced it. What fails is layering: a course your employer has claimed the 15% on, or that ADEM has reimbursed, is training cofinanced under other legal provisions and can therefore be refused for the CIF. The safe habit is to decide who is paying for a given course before you enrol, then use the other routes for what they actually do, which is time rather than money.
Does it matter that Code Labs Academy is German and teaches live online?
Not for the four routes on this page, and that is unusual enough to be worth stating. The cofinancement explicitly counts external provider and e-learning invoices, the tax deduction contains no provider condition at all, external redeployment has no approved-provider list, and the CIF accepts continuing-vocational-training bodies legally established in an EU member state. Where it does matter is the free public provision, which is delivered by the CNFPC and ADEM's contracted partners rather than chosen by the participant. I want to change career into tech. What is my route?
Not the tax deduction, which covers deepening the profession you currently exercise and not learning a new one. That leaves your employer, which is worth asking even for a change of field since the cofinancement does not apply the same test, and ADEM if you are registered as a jobseeker. If you have been declared unfit for your previous workstation, external redeployment is designed for exactly this and can bear far more of the cost than anything else here. And if you are funding it yourself, the unpaid training leave right is what lets you take a full-time course without resigning.
Should I take Fit4Coding instead?
If you can get a place and it fits what you want to do, seriously consider it, and we would rather say that plainly than bury it. It is free, it is intensive, and free is a hard thing to beat. The reasons it does not suit everyone are practical rather than promotional: places are limited and selected, it is aimed at registered jobseekers, and the schedule and subject are what the State has procured rather than what you choose. Nobody will fund it. What is the realistic path?
Two levers, and they work together. Interest-free monthly instalments spread the fee over up to 60 payments with no interest and no arrangement fee, so the total is the course price and nothing more. If you are employed and the course deepens your current job, the deduction then gives back your marginal rate on what you paid, which at the top of the Luxembourg scale is past 42%. Between them, a self-funded course costs considerably less than the sticker price and never requires you to find the whole amount at once.
