Funding a bootcamp in Italy

Stop looking for the voucher and start with who you are. Italy splits this question between two levels of government, and the split is the whole answer: what the State does nationally is support the person, replacing your income, protecting your job or lowering your tax, and none of it pays a training bill. What pays bills is regional, and every regional scheme buys courses from its own accredited catalogue. So there are four routes here, they sort by your situation rather than by size, and you should be able to stop reading at your own line.

The State supports the person; the regions buy the courses

Almost everyone searching for training funding in Italy is looking for the same thing: a scheme that pays for the course they picked. That scheme exists, it is called GOL, it is enormous, and it does not work the way people assume. GOL and its regional siblings do not hand you money to spend where you like. They fund places on courses the region has already bought from agencies holding that region's accreditation, which is a coherent way to run public training and a complete answer to why a course chosen by you sits outside it. Meanwhile the instruments that reach any course, ours included, are national and personal. NASpI replaces your income for as long as two years while you retrain. The congedo per la formazione suspends your job for up to eleven months and gives it back. The deduction lowers what you pay in tax if you hold a partita IVA. None of the three pays a fee, and all three ask nothing whatsoever about who teaches the course. One provincial exception proves the pattern: South Tyrol, which is autonomous, funds individuals directly and accepts courses held abroad and online. The practical consequence is that in Italy your funding question is not which scheme is best but which of four situations you are in.

Frequently asked questions

Is there really nothing national that pays for a course I choose?

For an individual, no, and it is better to know that at the start than after three weeks of searching. Italy's national instruments are built to support the person through a transition rather than to buy training: NASpI replaces income, the congedo protects the job, the tax rules reduce what the training costs a business or a self-employed person. Paying for courses is done regionally, through catalogues each region accredits. That is a coherent division rather than an oversight, and once you see it the search gets much shorter, because you stop looking for a national voucher that was never built.

I am registered with the centro per l'impiego. Should I use GOL instead?

Look at what your region's catalogue actually contains before deciding, because those courses cost you nothing and free is hard to beat. What you are choosing between is a course the region has bought, on its subjects and its schedule, and a course you pick yourself and pay for. If the catalogue has something close to what you want, take it. If it does not, or if the specialisation or timing is wrong, NASpI still runs alongside a course you choose, since it is paid to you and asks nothing about the school.

Does it matter that Code Labs Academy is a German provider teaching online?

It decides almost everything on this page, and in both directions. For the four routes in the first section it does not matter at all: none of them contains a provider, accreditation or geography condition, which is unusual and is exactly why they are the ones listed. For the regional schemes in the third section it is decisive, because those buy from agencies accredited by the region that funds them, and our AZAV certification is a German quality accreditation with no standing in an Italian regional accreditation system. Read it as evidence that we are externally audited, not as an Italian recognition.

Can I combine more than one of the four?

Yes, where they are different kinds of thing, which is most of the time. A South Tyrolean freelancer can claim the provincial contribution and deduct what is left. Someone on NASpI who later opens a partita IVA may find the fee deductible from that point. What you cannot do is stack two versions of the same support, and the one trap worth naming is that the congedo covers training the employer does not finance, so if your company decides to pay for the course you are in a different and better situation rather than in both at once.

I am employed, not self-employed, and not in South Tyrol. What is actually available to me?

Time rather than money, and it is worth more than it sounds. The congedo per la formazione gives you up to eleven months of job-protected leave after five years with your employer, which removes the real obstacle for most employed people, namely that attending a full-time course would mean resigning. The fee itself is yours, and the honest levers are the instalment plan, the upfront discount, and asking your employer to buy the training outright, which no Italian scheme has to approve.

Nobody is going to fund this. Is it still worth doing?

That is a question about the course rather than about the schemes, and the useful reframing is what the total actually is. Interest-free instalments spread the fee across up to 60 months with no interest and no fees, so the amount you pay is the course price rather than the price plus credit. Our shorter self-paced courses with regular instructor meetings cost considerably less than the live bootcamps and run outside working hours. Between the two, the realistic question stops being how to find a scheme and becomes which format and which schedule you can actually sustain.

Financing can depend on many factors in Italy (employment status, region, timing, and available calls). Our education specialists can help you compare instalment plans and CLA discounts, and also point you toward Italy-relevant routes such as Programma GOL and regional FSE+ vouchers. If you’re currently employed, we can also discuss employer-sponsored training approaches (for example through Interprofessional Funds or dedicated upskilling measures when active).
