How to pay for a bootcamp in France

France has more public training money than almost anywhere in Europe, and most readers arrive having already seen a balance with their own name on it. The thing worth knowing first is that the four public routes are shut by the same single condition rather than by four different ones. What is open is a tax route and an income route, and they solve different halves of the problem.

One condition closes the public routes, and it is the same condition every time

Mon Compte Formation lists only providers holding Qualiopi certification and a French numéro de déclaration d'activité, offering a certification registered with France Compétences. Those are French domestic registers, built for the domestic training market, and the same requirement governs France Travail's AIF, Transitions Pro and your OPCO before public or mutualised money moves. So a reader who checks the CPF, then the AIF, then Transitions Pro, then their OPCO is not testing four possibilities: they are testing one, four times, and it costs weeks. Say that once and the rest of France gets simpler, because two routes sit entirely outside that register. The tax deduction asks nothing of the school at all, and income replacement while you retrain is decided on your project rather than on your provider. They are worth taking together, since one reduces what the course costs you and the other pays your rent while you do it.

Frequently asked questions

I have EUR 3,000 in my CPF. Why can I not use it here?

Because Mon Compte Formation pays only providers entered on French domestic registers: Qualiopi certification, a numéro de déclaration d'activité, and a certification registered with France Compétences. It is a rule about which market the scheme was built to fund, and it applies identically to every provider outside those registers. Your rights are not spent or lost by reading this page. The route that does reduce what a course costs you in France is the frais réels deduction, and unlike the CPF it asks nothing at all of the school.

Is it worth checking the AIF, Transitions Pro and my OPCO one by one?

No, and that is the most useful thing on this page. All four public routes sit behind the same condition, so they are one question rather than four, and people routinely spend a month establishing that four times over. Ask the question once. If you want it confirmed by your own adviser rather than by us, put it to them directly: can this be funded for a provider without Qualiopi and without a French numéro de déclaration d'activité.

I want to resign and retrain. What is the one thing not to get wrong?

The order. Your project goes to a conseil en évolution professionnelle adviser, then to the Association Transitions Pro for your region, and only once the attestation is in your hands do you write the resignation letter. Resign first and the scheme is closed to you, with no route back, however good the project. You also need 1,300 days worked in the 60 months before you resign, which is roughly five continuous years, so it is worth checking that figure early rather than late.

Does the deduction actually pay for much?

It pays back between 11% and 45% of what you spent, depending on your marginal bracket, and it arrives with your tax assessment rather than at enrolment. Run the 10% test before counting on it: multiply your net taxable salary by 10%, and if your real professional expenses for the year come to less than that, the automatic allowance is already better. Where the fee is large relative to your salary, which is the usual case for a bootcamp, frais réels is comfortably the stronger option.

Can I combine keeping my benefit with paying the fee some other way?

Yes, and it is the combination most people here end up using, because the two solve different problems. ARE or ARE formation replaces your income and never pays tuition, so the fee stays yours to handle through instalments, savings or a later deduction in a year when you have taxable income. Keep the two budgets separate when you plan: income replacement on one side, the course fee on the other, and neither one waiting on the other.
