Easy and Free Internet Speed Test
This tool is ideal for diagnosing network issues, checking if your setup is ready for live online classes, or simply satisfying your curiosity about your connection’s performance. The test is almost completely automated. For best results, close any programs or browser tabs that stream video, sync large files or use a lot of bandwidth during the measurement. Avoid starting new downloads or online games while the test is running. Once you click "Start", our server will examine your internet connection and calculate your current speeds. You can repeat the test as often as you like, completely free of charge.
How the Measurement Works
Our server sends data packets to your device in order to measure your internet speed. To ensure the test runs long enough for a precise measurement, the server transmits several packets of different sizes. After being downloaded, these packets are sent back. The time this process takes is used to determine your download and upload speeds. For a meaningful result, please refrain from downloading anything else, visiting other websites, or checking your email during the test, as this will use up some of your available bandwidth.
What the Results Mean
Four essential components of your internet connection are measured by our speed test tool: download speed, upload speed, ping (latency) and jitter.
-
Download Speed: This measures how fast information travels from the internet to your device, usually expressed in megabits per second (Mbps). Higher download speeds are important for tasks like streaming video, downloading files, attending online classes and browsing the web smoothly.
-
Upload Speed: This measures how fast data travels from your device to the internet, also in Mbps. Higher upload speeds are essential for video conferencing, live classes, online gaming, cloud backups and sending large files.
-
Ping (Latency): Ping calculates the time, in milliseconds (ms), that a data packet needs to travel from your device to a server and back. For real-time applications like video calls, online lessons and gaming, lower ping times are crucial, as they indicate a more responsive connection.
-
Jitter: Jitter measures the variation in packet arrival times and shows how consistent your internet connection is. Low jitter is important for smooth, uninterrupted experiences in video conferencing, online gaming and VoIP calls, where stable audio and video quality matter.
Run Multiple Tests for More Accurate Results
Because many external factors can influence your connection, the result of a single internet speed test is not always fully precise. The performance of your device, Wi‑Fi signal strength, network congestion and server load can all affect the outcome. For a more reliable picture, run several speed tests at different times of day and compare the results. Averaging these measurements will give you a clearer idea of your typical download and upload speeds.
