Ghent's Aikido Lands $17M to Simplify Security for Developers

Aikido, a Belgian startup, has raised $17 million in Series A funding for its security platform, which is simple and developer-focused. Traditionally, only large corporations were concerned with security, but now, startups also handle vast amounts of customer data, increasing the need for robust security solutions for all developers. Rather than relying on the complicated tools that are typically used, Aikido provides an open-source platform that makes security management easier.

Instead of purchasing a tool and leaving the day-to-day management of its use to developers, the company's strategy is to give a "no BS" platform to the developers who will utilize it. According to Aikido's founder and CTO, Willem Delbare, in an interview with TechCrunch, this makes Aikido uniquely developer-centric.

Aikido distinguishes itself with its freemium strategy and a commitment to open sourcing its products, aiming for affordability, speed, and flexibility. The company reduces superfluous messages and concentrates on providing developers with important information. Three thousand small-to-midsize businesses have become clients of this approach.

The funding round, which brought the total amount raised to $22.5 million, was led by the European venture firm Singular and followed a $5 million seed round. The approach taken by Aikido is different from that of most Israeli or American security firms, which frequently develop one feature before being bought. Delbare highlights that Aikido is not interested in providing a limited solution, but rather in developing a broad foundation.

Aikido's business, network security software, is expected to experience tremendous growth, highlighting the growing significance and dynamic nature of security concerns in the technology sector.
