Run an internet speed test

Use this quick test to check your connection’s download speed, upload speed, ping (latency), and jitter. It’s a simple way to confirm you’re getting the performance you expect from your provider — and to make sure your setup is ready for live online classes, video calls, and hands-on learning.

An easy, free internet speed test

This tool is useful for diagnosing connection issues, optimising your online experience, or checking whether your internet is stable enough for live sessions. For the most accurate results, close other apps and browser tabs while the test runs. VPNs, antivirus scans, cloud backups, and downloads can affect the measurement — pause them temporarily if possible, then turn them back on after the test.

How the measurement works

To estimate your speed, the test sends and receives data between your device and a server. It measures how long it takes to transfer different packet sizes and uses that timing to calculate download and upload rates. Because the test uses available bandwidth, avoid streaming, downloads, or video calls during the measurement.

What the results mean

This speed test measures four key parts of your internet connection: download speed, upload speed, ping (latency), and jitter.

  • Download speed: How fast data travels from the internet to your device (usually shown in Mbps). Download speed matters for streaming, browsing, downloading files, and joining live learning sessions smoothly.

  • Upload speed: How fast data travels from your device to the internet (also in Mbps). Upload speed is important for video calls, screen sharing, sending large files, and participating actively in live classes.

  • Ping (latency): The time it takes for data to travel from your device to a server and back (in milliseconds). Lower ping usually means a more responsive connection — helpful for real-time tools like video calls and interactive learning platforms.

  • Jitter: How consistent your connection is over time (variation in packet arrival). Lower jitter is especially important for stable video calls, VoIP, and any live session where audio and video need to stay smooth.

Run a few tests for the best picture

A single speed test result can vary depending on Wi‑Fi signal, device performance, and network traffic. For a more reliable view, run the test a few times at different moments (for example morning, afternoon, and evening) and compare the results.

Knowing your internet speed helps you troubleshoot issues early and stay connected — whether you’re studying online, working remotely, or joining live sessions from the Netherlands and across Europe.
