EUR 1,500 back on your bootcamp, from Rhineland-Palatinate
The QualiScheck refunds 60% of your course and exam fees, capped at EUR 1,500, and there is no income limit at all. You qualify if you live in Rhineland-Palatinate or if you work there, so commuters in both directions are in scope. Two things rule you out: being self-employed, or being a civil servant.
What the QualiScheck is, and who it is for
The QualiScheck is Rhineland-Palatinate's subsidy for job-related further training, run by the state's Ministry for Labour, Social Affairs, Transformation and Digitalisation and co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus, whose current funding period runs to 2027. The terms are unusually generous for a regional voucher: 60% of your course, registration and exam fees back, up to EUR 1,500 per person, per measure and per year, with no income ceiling. A well-paid developer moving into data and AI is eligible on exactly the same terms as someone earning half as much. You also do not have to live in the state. Your main residence or your workplace in Rhineland-Palatinate is enough, which brings in everyone commuting into Mainz, Ludwigshafen, Koblenz, Trier or Kaiserslautern from Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Saarland or NRW, as well as everyone living in the state and commuting out to Frankfurt or Mannheim. Two groups are plainly excluded, and it is better to know now than after filling in a form: self-employed people and freelancers cannot use the QualiScheck, and neither can civil servants (Beamte). The programme is built for employees in social-insurance-liable jobs. There is no provider accreditation hurdle (no AZAV requirement, no rule that the school must sit in Rhineland-Palatinate), but there is one deadline that decides everything: your application must be filed through the EurekaRLP Plus portal at least one month before your course starts. On a Code Labs Academy bootcamp costing between EUR 5,000 and EUR 17,000, EUR 1,500 is a real discount of roughly 9 to 30 percent rather than a full financing plan, and it stacks with the tax deduction on everything you pay yourself.
You live in Rhineland-Palatinate, or you work there. Either one qualifies you, which is the most generous part of the programme. Your main residence in Mainz, Koblenz, Ludwigshafen, Trier, Kaiserslautern, Worms, Speyer or anywhere else in the state counts; so does a job in the state when you live over the border in Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Saarland or NRW. Nationality is not a criterion, so expats registered or employed in the state are in scope on the same terms.
You are an employee in a social-insurance-liable job (sozialversicherungspflichtig beschäftigt). This is the target group the programme was written for.
You are not self-employed and not a civil servant. Freelancers, sole traders and other self-employed people are excluded, and so are Beamte. If that is you, stop here. The tax deduction on training costs is the route that does work, and for self-employed learners the same fees are deductible as Betriebsausgaben with no upper limit.
There is no income cap. Unlike most regional training vouchers in Germany, the QualiScheck does not ask what you earn and does not want a tax assessment as proof of income.
The training has to be job-related. A career change into web development, data science and AI, Cybersecurity or UX/UI design counts. The connection can be to the job you are moving towards, not only the one you have.
The course has to cost at least EUR 100. Never an issue with a bootcamp, but it is in the rules, and it tells you the scheme is aimed at real training rather than short webinars.
What does the QualiScheck take off your bootcamp?
Enter your course fee to see what is paid back to you, what you are left paying, and how big that is as a share of the fee. On a bootcamp this is a meaningful discount rather than a financing plan, and it only works if your application is filed before you enrol: it has to be with the state at least one month before your course starts.
The full price of your bootcamp as it appears on our invoice, before any subsidy. Work this out early, because the application deadline falls a month before your start date.

- €7,500
- The subsidy as a share of your fee
- 16.67%
- These figures are an estimate based on what you entered, not a decision on your application.
- You pay Code Labs Academy in the normal way and the state pays you back after the course, against your invoice, your proof of payment and your proof of participation. Budget for the full price and treat this as money that arrives later.
- On any bootcamp the percentage comes to far more than the annual maximum, so what you actually receive is the cap and not the percentage.
This is an estimate based on the figures you entered. It is not tax advice and it is not a funding decision: whether you receive a QualiScheck and how much it pays is decided by the awarding body in Rhineland-Palatinate, and what you can deduct on the rest is decided by your Finanzamt. File through EurekaRLP Plus at least one month before your course starts, and treat the number here as a planning figure rather than a promise.
Frequently asked questions
I live in Rhineland-Palatinate but work in Frankfurt, or the other way round. Do I qualify?
Either way round, yes. The QualiScheck asks for your main residence or your place of work to be in Rhineland-Palatinate, not both. So if you live in Mainz, Bingen or Ludwigshafen and commute to Frankfurt, Wiesbaden or Mannheim, your residence qualifies you. And if you live in Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Saarland or NRW but your employer's site is in Rhineland-Palatinate, your workplace qualifies you. This is the criterion most people get wrong in the pessimistic direction, so check it before assuming you are out. Your employer and workplace address are part of the application, which is how the state sees which of the two applies to you.
I am self-employed, or I am a civil servant. Can I get the QualiScheck?
No, and we would rather say it plainly than let you spend an evening on the portal. Self-employed people and freelancers are excluded from the QualiScheck, and so are civil servants (Beamte); the programme is designed for employees in social-insurance-liable employment. What is open to you instead is the tax route, and it is not a consolation prize: as a self-employed person the full course fee is deductible as Betriebsausgaben with no upper limit, and civil servants deduct job-related training as Werbungskosten in exactly the same way employees do. See deducting your course from tax. You can also spread the fee over interest-free monthly instalments paid directly to Code Labs Academy, or take the discount for paying upfront.
Does a live online bootcamp count, and does the provider have to be based in Rhineland-Palatinate?
There is no rule that the provider must sit in Rhineland-Palatinate, and no AZAV or other accreditation is required. The programme assesses you and the training, not the school's location. Online delivery is workable, with one point worth clarifying up front: the state's rules expect a pure distance-learning offering to be compliant with the German distance-learning regime (ZFU registration). Code Labs Academy teaches live at scheduled times with an instructor present, which is normally treated as online classroom teaching rather than distance learning, so that requirement generally does not apply to our format. We cannot decide that on the awarding body's behalf, though. If your assessor raises it, ask for confirmation in writing before you enrol and we will provide the timetable and format description they need.
What happens if I miss the one-month deadline?
Then the QualiScheck is gone for that course, and there is no retroactive route. The application must be with the state at least one month before the course begins, which in practice means you need your quote and your cohort choice a good six weeks ahead. If your start date is closer than that, you have two sensible options: move to the next cohort and apply properly, or start now and claim the whole fee as Werbungskosten on your tax return, which needs no pre-approval and no deadline before the course. Ask us for the cohort calendar on your funding call. Shifting a start date by a few weeks is usually easier than finding EUR 1,500 elsewhere.
What if my application is refused?
Refusals normally come down to something concrete rather than a judgement about your career: an application filed inside the one-month window, an excluded status (self-employed, civil servant), no residence or workplace in the state, an unclear connection between the training and your current or intended job, or the budget position of the programme in that period. Ask for the reason in writing. If it is the job-relevance argument, resubmit for a later cohort with a clearer statement of the role you are targeting and the skills gap the bootcamp closes. And if it stays refused, your finances are not stuck: the full fee remains deductible as Werbungskosten, an employer can contribute, and you can pay in interest-free monthly instalments directly to Code Labs Academy or take the upfront-payment discount.
When do I actually see the money, and who is it paid to?
It is paid to you, not to us, and it arrives after the course rather than before it. The sequence is: approval, then enrolment, then you pay Code Labs Academy the normal way, then you submit your invoice, proof of payment and proof of participation, and the 60% (up to EUR 1,500) is transferred to your account. That matters for planning, because your cash flow has to carry the full price in the meantime. If that is the sticking point, our interest-free monthly instalments are designed exactly for this: your monthly payments run over the course, and the reimbursement lands while you are still paying them off.
