Easy and Free Internet Speed Test
This tool is ideal for diagnosing network issues, optimising your online activities or simply satisfying your curiosity about how your connection is performing. The test is almost completely automated—just close bandwidth‑heavy apps and avoid starting new downloads while it runs. For the most accurate results, ensure no one else on your network is streaming, gaming or video calling at the same time. Once you click "Start", our server will examine your connection and calculate your download and upload speeds. You can repeat the speed test as often as you like, free of charge.
How the Measurement Works
Our server sends test data packets to your device to measure your internet speed. To make sure the test runs long enough for a precise reading, the server sends several packets of different sizes. After they are downloaded, data is also sent back to measure upload performance. The download and upload speeds you see are based on how long this process takes. For best results, please avoid downloading other files, visiting additional websites or starting new video calls during the test, as these activities share the available bandwidth.
What the Results Mean
Our speed test tool measures four key elements of your internet connection: download speed, upload speed, ping (latency) and jitter.
-
Download speed: This measures how quickly information travels from the internet to your device and is commonly expressed in megabits per second (Mbps). Faster download speeds are important for tasks such as streaming video, downloading files and browsing the web smoothly.
-
Upload speed: This measures how quickly data travels from your device to the internet, also expressed in Mbps. Strong upload speeds are essential for video calls, cloud backups, online gaming and sending large files.
-
Ping (latency): Ping shows how long it takes, in milliseconds (ms), for a small data packet to travel from your device to a server and back again. Lower ping times mean a more responsive connection, which is especially important for real‑time activities such as video conferencing and online gaming.
-
Jitter: Jitter indicates how much variation there is in the time it takes for packets to arrive. Low jitter means a more stable connection, which is crucial for applications that need smooth, uninterrupted performance, such as online gaming, video conferencing and VoIP calls.
Run Multiple Tests for More Accurate Results
Because of a variety of outside factors, the result of a single internet speed test may not always be perfectly precise. Things like the performance of your device, temporary network congestion or server load can all affect the outcome. For a more reliable picture of your connection, run several speed tests at different times of day and compare the results. Averaging these tests will give you a better sense of your typical download and upload speeds.
