Easy and Free Internet Speed Test
This tool is ideal for diagnosing network issues, optimizing your online activities, or simply satisfying your curiosity about your connection’s performance. The test is almost completely automated. For the most accurate results, pause large downloads, streaming, cloud backups, and any other bandwidth-heavy applications while the test is running. Once you click "Start", our server will examine your internet connection and measure your download and upload speeds. You can take this speed test for free whenever you need a quick check.
How the Measurement Works
Our server sends data packets to your device in order to measure your internet speed. To ensure the test runs long enough for an accurate measurement, the server transmits several packets of different sizes. After being downloaded, these packets are also uploaded back. The download and upload speeds you see are calculated based on how long this process takes. For best results, avoid starting new downloads, opening additional websites, or joining video calls during the test, as these activities share your available bandwidth.
What the Results Mean
Our speed test measures four key aspects of your connection: download speed, upload speed, ping (latency), and jitter.
-
Download Speed: This measures the speed at which information travels from the internet to your device, usually expressed in megabits per second (Mbps). Faster download speeds are important for tasks like streaming video, downloading files, and loading web pages smoothly.
-
Upload Speed: This measures the speed—also expressed in Mbps—at which data travels from your device to the internet. Strong upload speeds are essential for video calls, online gaming, sharing large files, and participating in live online classes.
-
Ping (Latency): Ping measures how long it takes, in milliseconds (ms), for a small data packet to travel from your device to a server and back. Lower ping means a more responsive connection, which is especially important for real-time activities like video conferencing, online gaming, and interactive remote learning.
-
Jitter: Jitter describes the variation in how quickly packets arrive, reflecting how consistent your connection is over time. Low jitter is important for smooth audio and video in online meetings, gaming, and VoIP calls, where sudden delays can cause stuttering or dropouts.
Multiple Tests for More Accurate Results
Because many outside factors can affect a single internet speed test, one measurement alone may not tell the full story. Network congestion, Wi‑Fi interference, and server load are just a few of the variables that can influence your results. For a clearer picture of your connection, try running several tests at different times of day and averaging the results.
