Run an internet speed test

Welcome to our Internet Speed Test page! If you’re learning online from Austria, a stable connection makes a real difference—especially for live classes, hands-on labs, and video calls. Use this tool to quickly check your download speed, upload speed, ping (latency), and jitter so you know what to expect from your connection.

Easy, free internet speed test

This tool is useful for diagnosing network issues, optimising online activities, or simply checking your connection before a live session. The speed test is mostly automated. For the most accurate results, close background downloads and streaming, and pause VPNs or bandwidth-heavy apps. Security software can sometimes affect results—if you temporarily disable anything, re-enable it immediately after the test.

When you’re ready, click “Start” to run the test. You can repeat it at different times of day to understand how your connection performs during peak hours.

How the measurement works

Our server sends data packets to your device to measure your connection’s performance. To make the measurement accurate, it transmits multiple packets of different sizes over a short period. The test then calculates your download and upload speeds based on how long these transfers take.

During the test, avoid downloading files, streaming video, browsing heavily, or checking email in the background, as the test uses as much available bandwidth as possible.

What the results mean

Our speed test measures key aspects of your internet connection: download speed, upload speed, ping (latency), and jitter.

 • Download speed: This measures how fast data travels from the internet to your device, usually shown in megabits per second (Mbps). Faster download speeds help with streaming, browsing, and downloading files.

 • Upload speed: This measures how fast data travels from your device to the internet (also in Mbps). Upload speed matters for video calls, sending large files, and screen sharing during live classes.

 • Ping (latency): This measures how quickly a data packet travels from your device to a server and back, shown in milliseconds (ms). Lower latency usually means a more responsive connection—important for real-time activities like video calls and online collaboration.

 • Jitter: This measures variation in latency over time (how consistent your connection is). Low jitter is important for smooth video conferencing, VoIP calls, and online collaboration.

Run multiple tests for more accurate results

A single test result can vary due to factors like Wi‑Fi signal strength, device performance, and network congestion. For a more reliable picture, run several tests at different times of day and average the results.

Using Code Labs Academy’s speed test helps you confirm your connection is ready for live online learning from Austria—whether you’re joining a workshop, attending class, or collaborating on projects.
